Bandipora, Jan 18 (KNO): Residents of Sumbal and Chittibandey areas of north Kashmir's Bandipora district Monday blocked the Bandipora-Srinagar road at two separate places to protest against the power development department for the hike in monthly tariffs.
Witnesses told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the protesters from Chittibandey village, including men, women and children assembled on Bandipora-Srinagar road near Gund Dachina and blocked the traffic movement for hours together to protest against the PDD.
They alleged that the department has unnecessarily hiked monthly tariff even as they do not get the proper and frequent power supply in the village.
“We belong to the poor section of the society and we cannot pay hefty amounts on monthly basis as tariff, and that too when we do not even get electricity as per schedule,” said Javid Ahmad, one of the protestors.
Meanwhile, residents of Naninara village of Sumbal also blocked Bandipora-Srinagar road to protest against the hike in monthly power tariff.
Raising slogans against the PDD, the villagers demanded rollback of the monthly hike in power tariff.
The villagers appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to personally intervene into the matter and help resolve their genuine grievances.
Notably, the traffic movement on Bandipora-Srinagar road got disrupted for several hours, however, the traffic was later restored after the police officials reached the spots and assured the protesters that their grievance will be resolved soon—(KNO)
